January 2014 is already speeding by, with surges of New Years resolvers hitting the gym and reflecting on how their 2013 was spent. And how could we possibly reflect on the year in the Bay Area without shining some light on an only-in-San-Francisco holiday season must see? On Thursday, December 12 at the Safeway Holiday Ice Rink in Union Square presented by Alaska Airlines, the night was taken over by the most glamorous gathering of glamazons the City has to offer.

As January sped past and we go into the tail end of the Winter season, we watch the remnants of this cold period fade away into the opening of spring. The ever-grey Winter nights in the City blossom with pops of resort season colour, but the San Francisco Bay Area Fashion Network had one last flurry of white for the season – Snow, their annual all-white fashion show showcasing the brightest and best designers in and around the city. This year’s line-up brought looks from Cari Borja, The Artful Gentleman, Julie Schindler, Cana Klebanof, Charmosa by Neide Hall, and Joseph Domingo.

The show took place in the heart of downtown San Francisco at the Cowden Automotive center – a foreign car repair shop transformed into the most glamourous venue in the City. Draped in sheer white fabric and subtle accents of silver and white snowflakes, the garage was already filled with style-philes within minutes of the door opening. While taking a look around after grabbing a glass of bubbly sponsored by Freixenet, it was clear that the guests pulled no stops to put together their best all-white outfits – exploring the vast realm of silhouettes and textures to pull together an outfit that shows a knowledge of dressing that only the fashion elite could possess.

“San Francisco is a city with people from all different cultures and walks of life, and we wanted to put on a show that would best reflect that,” said Travis Alexander Walls on his team’s recent production of the Lo’Cal Fashion show set in the lush Clift Hotel in San Francisco. Wednesday 12/12/12, was certainly a day to remember, and not just because it will be the last repeating date in a hundred years; the Lo’Cal runway was graced by a stunning display of fashions from some of the Bay Area’s finest designers and retailers: Altitude Showroom, Vintage Joy, DSF, Jeanette Au, Mullholand Leathers, Endless Ammo, andPaulina Carach. Walls – along with his co-producers: Brent Moncourtios, Anthony Pham, Mickey Olivas, Kayla Wagner, and Daphne Palomares – show that celebrating the apex of luxury in one of the City’s most iconic hotels was the perfect way to ring in the holiday season. Walls comments, “We felt that having the show at the iconic Clift Hotel would reflect the statement of the show in the best possible way.” And indeed – the luxurious setting, along with cocktails in the Redwood Room preshow all added to the glamour and intrigue of Lo’Cal.

On Thursday, November 29 a group of 11 Academy of Art University fashion students presented their first-ever student-produced fashion show in the beautiful atrium of their Polk Street campus. Using clothing from Northern California-based fashion label Tart Collections, the students repurposed and styled a fresh new look for the holiday collection. Co-founder of Tart Collections Dana Finegold praises the students’ hard work in presenting their label, “I’m just really impressed with the outcome. I think they did an amazing job. We’ve done our own fashion shows and this was definitely comparable to our own.”

Tart Collections is known for their sexy, comfortable, and wearable clothing – notably their sexy jersey dresses and modern knitwear – taking California-casual and injecting it with a well-needed dose of sex appeal. Finegold continues to spill about this holiday’s inspiration, which takes elements of resort wear from the South of France, “Sexy, beautiful, and comfortable have to be in it.” And this holiday season fell nothing short of delivering all three elements. Taking the runway at Academy of Art was a show-stopping parade of long, draped dresses, layered with equally fluid knit tops and capes, slim fit cigarette pants, and sheer tops sure to find places in any woman’s wardrobe.

Picture the landmark Hotel Niko in downtown San Francisco during a horribly rainy Tuesday evening. Just standing outside for a minute soaked me to the bone, but the trek was well worth it. Château Baccarat Crystal recently launched a new collection of luxury wineglass stemware and was giving an exclusive preview in collaboration with Boisset Family Estates wine hosted by the fabulous Anthony Dias Blue, known to many by his Blue Lifestyle Minute syndicated radio show.

No sooner than I checked in and taken off my coat was I handed a glass of JCB No. 21 (SRP $19.99) in one of the new Baccarat glasses. This particular bubbly was the perfect balance of floral and fruity to take the lack of colour outside away from my attention. Within a matter of minutes of touring the Peninsula room where the tasting seminar took place, I was finished half a glass and ready to sample the fine wines Boisset has to offer.

It’s Valentine’s week and love is in the air. Love for fashion, of course. Sunday afternoon brought a sneak preview of Tory Burch’s Deauville inspired Spring 2012 collection against the luxurious backdrop of Seasons Restaurant in the Four Seasons Hotel in San Francisco. Starting out the week with a feast of fashion and brunch food (not to mention bottomless mimosas!) is definitely the way to live for those with a taste for style.

Walking into the venue, I already notice the crowd is impeccably dressed while sipping their morning cocktails and watching models parade around in between courses. Once I was seated at my table, the first thing that captures my breath is the gorgeous view of Downtown San Francisco from Seasons’ fifth floor dining room. Not too long after my mimosa arrives, the server presents us with gift bags from Tory Burch and the Four Seasons containing a votive candle set, a $25 promotional card to one of the Tory Burch boutiques, and a dessert teaser from the hotel’s Violet Hour.

Writing Samples

So I’ve been a little bit relaxed for a while in linking all of the writing that I’ve done so far. Given that I’m no longer looking for dead-end retail based jobs, I think it’s finally time to put samples all in one place. With that being said, I’m happy to say that I’ll be working on building a new website and making it a lot more engaging and pleasant to look at, but for the time being, I’m just going to make it simple and link teasers right here through this blog. So without further delay, the next several posts will all be dedicated to localizing my work!
